Membership
Wye Community Farm Limited is registered as an Industrial and Provident Society, Reg No 30276R.
Initial start up funding has been provided by a number of donations and interest-free loans, to allow cattle to be purchased to graze the Wye NNR as our initial enterprise.
Once further land and buildings have been secured, allowing a full business plan to be developed, membership will be offered in the form of £50 shares. To register your interest in becoming a member, please complete and return the public consultation form.
How will it work?
- The WCF Limited is incorporated as an Industrial and Provident Society (IPS) for the benefit of the community, regulated under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts 1965-2003.
- The WCF will raise sufficient funds to establish the most appropriate business model as identified by the WCF steering group, through a share issue, grants, and other means as felt appropriate including loans.
- Each share will cost £50, with anyone owning a share becoming a member of the WCF.
- The WCF will be managed by a board, elected from and by the members. (One vote per member, irrespective of the number of shares owned).
- Trading surpluses (profits) will be used to maintain prudent reserves and on expenditure necessary to achieve the Trust's objectives. Interest may be paid on shares.
- In the event of closure of the WCF, residual funds will be returned to members in proportion to their original investment and/or distributed to similar bodies.
Benefits of membership
In addition to the wider environmental and social benefits to be achieved through the WCF, it is envisaged that members would receive the following:
- Member rates on selected farm produce, along with priority in the event of demand exceeding supply.
- Password access to member-only sections of the website, containing the farm business plan, accounts, etc. Members would be encouraged to play an active part in maintaining and improving the performance of the farm, through input to the board and farm manager via the website.
- Member-only farm walks, giving further opportunity for input into farm policy.
We are keen to hear what other benefits you would wish membership to offer – please indicate via contact us.
